Case study

The crest, printed on the crema.

Porsche Centre South Lakes launched the Taycan to an invited room. We designed the serves around the car and put the crest on the surface of the coffee.

The brief

A launch night in a working showroom.

A Porsche launch evening runs on the same logic as any first look. The car is the reason people came. Everything else in the room exists to keep them there, comfortable and talking, for long enough to spend real time with it.

Porsche Centre South Lakes was launching the Taycan to 150 invited guests, and the hospitality had to match a marque where guests already have a fixed idea of what the brand feels like. There is very little margin for something that reads as generic event catering.

So the drinks were designed for this car and this room, not pulled from a standing menu.

The constraint

Showrooms have no back of house.

A dealership floor is a display surface. There is no service kitchen, no cellar and nowhere out of sight to prepare, so a bar has to arrive complete and leave no trace.

Our builds travel in sections and run from standard power, which is what makes a showroom viable at all. Ice, waste and preparation are planned to stay behind the bar line, because on a polished floor surrounded by cars there is nowhere else for them to go.

What the room dictates

  • A footprint that does not interrupt the sightline to the car
  • Everything carried in and out through the same public doors the guests use
  • No standing water, no visible crates, no marks on the floor

What we designed

Theatre, timed to the reveal.

Flair bartending works at a launch because it gives the room a second thing to watch without ever competing with the first. We time it to the gaps: arrivals, and the lull after the speeches, not the reveal itself.

The detail that travelled furthest was the smallest. We print onto the crema, so the Porsche crest arrived on the surface of the coffee. It is the kind of thing a guest photographs before they drink it, which is exactly the point.

Alongside it ran signature serves built around the car, with an alcohol free version of each, because a driving launch is full of people who are driving.

Delivered

What we brought.

A bar that leaves no trace. A sectional build carried in through the public entrance, running from standard power, with ice, waste and preparation kept behind the bar line.

The crest on the crema. Branded coffee served through the evening with the Porsche crest printed onto the surface of every cup.

Flair, timed to the gaps. Theatre placed at arrivals and after the speeches, with signature serves designed around the car and an alcohol free version of each.

The approach

Designed for the car in the room.

Automotive launches are the work we do most often, from Aston Martin in Mayfair to the Land Rover SV at Stratstone.

In short

What did Drink Differently do for the Porsche Taycan launch?

We delivered the drinks for the Taycan new model launch at Porsche Centre South Lakes, an evening for 150 invited guests. A dealership showroom has no back of house, no service kitchen and nowhere out of sight to prepare, so our bar arrived as a sectional build carried in through the public entrance, ran from standard power, and kept ice, waste and preparation behind the bar line. The footprint was set so it never interrupted the sightline to the car. The serves were designed around the Taycan rather than taken from a standing menu, each with an alcohol free version, because a driving launch is full of guests who are driving. Branded coffee ran through the evening with the Porsche crest printed onto the crema of every cup. Flair bartending was timed to the gaps in the running order, at arrivals and after the speeches, so it gave the room something to watch without ever competing with the reveal.
